my grandmother's christening gown

this dress is at least 96 or 97 years old. My grandmother died a year ago in May after living such a long life. I don't want to say her life was wonderful because I know so little of about her, but I also don't want to say that it wasn't. I know she was always working around her home and loved her garden. She was always kind when we came to visit once a year for three weeks. Yesterday, while visiting my mother, she showed me my grandma's christening dress. I had no idea my mother was given this wonderful little gown. She pulled it out from it's secret hiding place and we admired it for a while. it is in such great condition. the only thing missing are two little buttons that held the dress closed in the back. It is so beautiful. It got kind of cloudy yesterday afternoon so the pictures are not that great.


I wonder if one day my mother will pass on to me this wonderful dress. I did not ask as my mother was feeling a bit melancholy and I did not want to upset her.

a creative outlet

I took a drive to my mother's house, on the south side of Chicago, today to go spend some quality time with my family. It's always nice to go home and spend time with the ones you love PLUS have some of mom's great cookin. My mother can make anything taste good. She is a wonderful cook.

I also enjoy going because her yard is such a great place to practice my photography. the lighting is great and she takes part in my creativity.

These are a few things I had left at her home a few weeks back. Since all of my art supplies are back in MO photography is next in line as one my favorite ways of letting my creativity come through.

When I take pictures, I just don't take one I take many and choose from the ones I have taken. Here are a few of my faves. I guess my style is simple. It always has been that way. I am a simple girl and like simple things. NOTHING to complicated for me.

this morning as I was taking my dog for a little stroll, I found this tree that bears this fruit. they are not cherries can you tell me what they are? They look like little apples. Can they be crabapples??? If I dried them would they keep their color and texture? I guess I need to pick more and see.

This is one of my pieces that I created a while ago for a store called Red Lead in St. Louis, MO. I taught a group of ladies how to make this. I have been thinking lately that I would really like to start creating again.... one problem though - all my art supplies stayed behind packed up. can't start buying new stuff again. my itch for creating will have to be put on the back burner for now.
